Today let's talk about 'the printing press.
Specifically, we report an article posted on the blog of Andrea Mancini BISCUIT BISON that talks about how to prepare a file that then go to the printers.
The quoting in full:
"In designing and manufacturing a product for the digital print, is perhaps the most important part of project preparation for the print shop. At this stage we have to analyze technical factors, to prevent all possible problems and be very clear on print requests.
In this short article, there are some simple tips and tricks to better prepare our work. The article will refer to Adobe Indesign, emerging program for the printing press, fresh and integrated into the Creative Suite with Photoshop and Illustrator.
The first problems to be solved are those related to the management of color and graphics. In particular, it is necessary that all raster files are processed a CMYK color profile and at least 300 dpi resolution , so do file downloaded from the network because their resolution is too low and the jpeg compression is too strong, this involves halos and jagged in the printed product in most cases.
From this account it is clear that it is always good prefer uncompressed formats as *. Tiff and * . psd, avoid if possible *. jpg and * . gif, in any case always convert Jpeg and Tiff also lead to 300 dpi, this begs the serrations, They will be replaced by a blur.
Although it may sound strange, you should rasterize vector files, this is because compatibility issues can arise in the interpretation of the vector shape and then reunite at the press of the figures are missing or wrong.
A stage is then required that in the control of all the texts , this operation is divided into three phases: control layout, control of typing and checking the contents. These operations can be done on screen or printing of pages of evidence, even at low quality. The first inspection should take place on the form of text columns and their position, with particular attention to the new line and the integrity and readability of the text.
The second check involves examining the part of the vocabulary of the printing and Indesign as opposed to a possible reading all the texts in order to avoid trivial but bad typos. The third phase takes place instead of reading the product in the right direction and ensuring the integrity and clarity of concepts, to check if it is omitted sentences or parts of them in the layout.
Finally, you need control over cromario matches the color RGB -> CMYK for a direct comparison with the printer up gradation esatta di colore che volete stampato.
Grazie alla funzione Preflight (File -> Preflight) , program highlights problems caused by missing or damaged fonts, missing images and incorrect color profiles, manually corrected these problems once you switch into the Package (File -> Package) , which creates a folder with everything needed for the print shop. Furthermore, it is saved to a text file Instructions.txt where they collected information about the type of printing and the person to contact in case problems.
In particular you should specify: your data, date, number of pages, number of pages, print mode, types of paper, any lamination, il margine di sbordo (bleed) e le dimensioni in mm del prodotto finito.
Imbustare e portare in tipografia.
Buon lavoro!
